What Would Don Draper Do?

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Here at Rosscott, Inc., we have a few loves.  Mad Men on AMC is one of those loves.  The main character, Don Draper, is a great character.  Now there’s a site that tries to answer the question: What would Don Draper do?

Help Spread The System

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

From BoingBoing:

Graham Linehan just delivered the season three scripts for The IT Crowd, the hilarious, ultra-geeky Channel 4 sitcom about sysadmins. He’s shaved the script-delivery a little close and is looking for your help in coming up with set-dressing ideas.

This is it, Systemics (that’s what I’ve named you, the fans of The System).  Our chance to spread our message to the world.  Help me out by sending these comics to ben.capel@talkbackthames.tv (the contact over at The IT Crowd).  How about sharing how we all really feel about billable hoursCrap sandwichesCrop Dusting?  Hell, even Jimmy the Murderdog.  Welcome them to The System.

What’s that?  Incentive?  You got it.  CC our email address (systemcomic@gmail.com) and if we make it onto the set of The IT Crowd, I will send a 19″ The System poster to each Systemic who helped make it happen.

2. What you just watched is getting made into a TV show by Cartoon Network (after Nickelodeon passed on it). Isn’t that cool? Read more here.

Sterling Cooper Lets Me Down

Monday, September 1st, 2008

As previously mentioned, Rosscott, Inc. is a big fan of Mad Men because it is amazing.  I know it has a big following in the design community, probably due to its subject matter.  As such, some designerds of my proportion have found a slight flaw:  they use Arial in the end credits.

Seems as good of a time as any to point out that The System is 100% Helvetica Neue.

Quick Post

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

I know, I know.  You missed me!  Few quick things.

Don LaFontaine (the movie trailer narrator) has passed away.  Plenty of jokes come to mind.  What are some of yours?

Tigh / Roslin has a campaign site. (Oh, and I spelled Roslin wrong in the last post.  Why?  Because I live in DC.  20 points if you understand that.)

Every BSG episode in 5 minutes. YES OF COURSE THERE ARE SPOILERS.

Did you see yesterday’s comic?  One of my favs.

Mad Men Illustrations

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Again, we love Mad Men. Love it. It’s great. I dare you to tell me why it ISN’T great, simply so I have a reason to punch you square in the solar plexus (I’ve decided that’s a good place to start). OK I’m getting straight to it. Thanks again to Kottke, here are some great Mad Men illustrations done in a 60’s style that the boys at Sterling Cooper would be proud of (if, yknow, they were real and stuff).

Obama and Bartlet Walk Into A Bar…

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Aaron Sorkin scripted Obama meeting The West Wing’s own Josiah Bartlet.  It’s great.
