Super Art Fight Post 1

Monday, September 15th, 2008

ARE YOU in the Baltimore area?  Do you like webcomics?  Do you like rock shows?  Do you enjoy the idea of a new type of show beyond ANOTHER damn rock show?  Do you want to see me in person?  Has someone you know already told you about this?

If you have answered “yes” to any of these, you should go to Super Art Fight this Saturday night, at the Ottobar in Baltimore.  Here’s the site for more info.

Super Art Fight

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

I’m a little busy and exhausted to do a recap, but here’s a pic from the night.  Jami “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi, being crowned champion of Art Fight, by myself and Marty “Effin’” Day.  I was up on stage commentating with Marty all night.  Oh, and that’s Karmella’s Game in there as well, helping to guest judge the last round.

Super Art Fight Update

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

For those of you who couldn’t make it to Super Art Fight and really wanted to see how it went, I present this very awesome video.  For those of you who don’t know, I’m the one with a blue tux.

So, “when is the next one” you ask?  December 20, 2008 @ The Ottobar.  Mark your calendars.

SUPER ART FIGHT

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

This is a monster post, because you need to care about this.

Remember the last Super Art Fight?  There was a recap video, a blog writeup, and oh yeah, there’s a website?

Well, there’s another event, and it is this saturday night, December 20, 2008 @ The Ottobar in Baltimore.

Here’s a great promo video put together by MC Lars and gang hyping up for this next show. They talk about hating SAF after MC Chris kicked us off his bill 2 shows ago. More details on that, um, never. Still, we’ve embraced it and here’s the vid:

Thinking of going but not convinced?  Check out the Washington Post article on the subject, as well as one on Metromix.  Or hell, just check out the site.

Btw, if it wasn’t clear, I’ll be commentating again with Marty “effin” Day as we did at the last big SAF show.  Look forward to some awesomeness.

Quick Quomic Quorner (QQQ)

I missed out on meeting Ami from The Glass Urchin at Balticon by mere minutes.  For months after, every one of my webcomic friends got to know her and I feel I missed the boat since I have become a huge fan of her little comic.  But no longer! Thanks to the Twitters, we have had a chance to chat a bit, and turns out we are both fans of each other’s comics (or will pretend to be at the least).

The Glass Urchin is a autobio comic about Ami, though she is portrayed (as are her friends) as cute woodland creatures.  NO THIS IS NOT A FURRY COMIC.  It is, however, fun and hilarious.  Here’s my fav.  Go check out the site, it updates often and does not disappoint.

Ah, Is It Funny Today.  I have to give you at least a shout-out.  This new site lets you see tons of webcomics, and vote on whether or not they are funny today.  I find it clever because it automatically updates based on a comic’s RSS feed, and is run by ratio of Funny / Not Funny (not popularity).  I also have to say, it has doubled The System’s audience, so no complaints there (hi there, new people!).  Anyways, you should check it out, and keep an eye on my page there (also listed in the blogroll on this here site).  You can always vote for The System there. (The pic above, btw, is a quick screen shot.  #113 has been on top for the last 2 days!  I’m not-so-secretly thrilled.)

Yes, another reminder.  Super Art Fight, an event that I myself will be attending, is tomorrow night (8pm, $10, The Ottobar in Baltimore).  You can see more info on the site, as well as the many plugs we’ve been getting for the show.  Highlights include Baltimore Examiner, Washington Post, and a quick jaunt on Wonkette where she made fun of us.

Super Art Fight This Thursday in Baltimore!

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

UPDATE! Want TWO FREE TICKETS to the show?  See below!

I do not talk enough about Super Art Fight on my own website.  Let’s start with the basics.  Super Art Fight is a live event that is part graffiti art jam, part wrestling match, and part rock show.  If this doesn’t already entice you, I don’t think you’re a big fan of my comic.  Want more?  Here’s a video from a previous show (I’m the one in the amazingly blue jacket).

Do I have your attention now?  Good.  I know you’re thinking, when and how can I go to one of these amazing looking shows? The answer is THURSDAY.  That’s right, the night before Otakon, you can attend Super Art Fight 4 at The Ottobar, this Thursday night.

Buy tickets ($10 each)?  Here.

More info?  Here.

More videos?  Here.

Can’t make it but still jazzed about the whole thing?  The artists draw exclusively from suggestions that are given by the audience both in person and online.  You can submit ideas for things to draw on the “big submission post” right here. We’ll be posting vids and pics afterwards, so you’ll see how it turns out.

Oh, and here’s one more video of Nick pimping out the show.

So you’ve made it this far, and you are wondering about the free tickets? It’s simple! Email me (systemcomic at gmail) with:

  • Post TWO Art Fight suggestions as mentioned above, as well as mentioned here (but email them to me, like I just said).
  • A link to your favorite The System comic
  • Subject line: SUPER ART FIGHT

That’s it! Then you’re entered to win. Winners chosen Wednesday night.  Email me / comment on this post with questions.

Connecticon Weekend!

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

I’m off to Connecticon this weekend as a guest.  I’ll be hanging in Webcomic Alley with the rest of the webcomics crew.  If you’re in the Hartford, CT area, drop on by the table!  If you know you’re going to be there, leave me a comment on the post.  It’s nice to put screen names with faces.

We’re having TWO big Super Art Fight shows at Connecticon on Saturday, with some new art fighters!  Details are on the SAF site here.

I’m going to try to get up a comic for Friday while I’m gone but if it doesn’t show up, content will begin flowing again on Monday.  Remember, you have until Sunday night to enter the Jimmy The Murderdog Fan Art Contest!

If you just can’t live without me, I’ll probably be posting from my Twitter account a good bit.

Connecticon Recap 1 – Panel Goodness

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

picture-6

I’m going to be posting 2 or 3 different recaps of Connecticon, because it would not all fit in one post unless that post was really really long.  Nobody wants that, so here we go.  This one is all about Saturday, between 5pm and 8:30pm.

First up was a little event known as Super Art Fight.  SAF has been a little project of mine and some local webcomics friends, and Connecticon was the biggest show yet.  Through some sheer cohones and conniving on our part, we managed to get some of the most amazing webcomic artists in the biz, which was also a great chance to get to know some amazing webcomic artists that I hadn’t otherwise gotten to know.  You can see all details in this post on the SAF site, and let us know if you have pics or video of the event.  Or just let us know if you were there or heard about it or whatever.

The second big event pretty much speaks for itself.  Check out this video of the beginning of the XKCD / Explosm.net panel which followed immediately after Super Art Fight.

That is part 1 of 8.  The rest is 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.  The rest is pretty informative and hilarious, which involves me in a blue jacket, drinking “water” on stage, and telling a few people to shut the hell up.

Honestly, it was a little planned.  After I moderated their panel at Webcomics Weekend, the guys were nice enough to let me moderate this one as well.  Y’know, I thought I wrote about that experience on the site, but I never did.  I meant to, but got so distracted that I just linked to photos of it.  It was a great time for me and them the first time around, so we all did it again.

If you found the site through XKCD or Explosm in some way, write a comment.  For that matter, if you like the panel, post about it.

That right there is a clip from the last show, only a few months back and gives you an idea of what this show will be like.  Coming to Baltimore Comic Con?  Perfect!  SAF5 is in Baltimore, not far from the con this Friday (October 9th) at the Metro Gallery. All the details you need can be found right here.

You should click here.

This show is heating up, as we are featuring myself, Marty, Nick, Jami, Dern, Jamie, Danielle, Lar, Bryan, Kelsey, Bracco and Chris!  That’s more comic artists than most conventions, and they’ll all be drawing, fighting, and generally rocking out.
