This is NOT meant as a political post. However, the designer in me can’t let this one go. Obama has created a consistent brand unlike anything seen before, and Michael Beirut has written a great piece about it.
Is Obama’s stuff on the level with the best commercial brand design?
I think it’s just as good or better. I have sophisticated clients who pay me and other people well to try to keep them on the straight and narrow, and they have trouble getting everything set in the same typeface. And he seems to be able to do it in Cleveland and Cincinnati and Houston and San Antonio. Every time you look, all those signs are perfect. Graphic designers like me don’t understand how it’s happening. It’s unprecedented and inconceivable to us. The people in the know are flabbergasted.
Like him or not, you gotta appreciate the brand consistency and his ability to market a message. Check out the article for more.
Looking to waste some time? Check out this quiz of movie poster letters and the movies they relate to. Lots of fun and great way to waste time at work. I lost 20 minutes and got about half of them! Check it, yo.
I loves me some 8-bit music. Chiptunes. Check it out.
BLIP FESTIVAL: REFORMAT THE PLANET is a feature length documentary which delves into the movement known as chiptunes, a vibrant underground scene based around creating new, original music using old video game hardware. Familiar devices such as the Nintendo Game Boy and Nintendo Entertainment System are pushed in new directions with startling results.

A muffin-like friend of mine (and Systemic) sends in today’s hilarity, a great post on how to draw absolutely anything in just 1 step! Worth reading and laughing at.
An interesting article on pixelating artwork, then making it into bathroom tile art. Again, thanks to a muffin I know.
Thanks, Alexbot3000 for posting about how McCain / Palin look like Col. Tigh / Laura Rosslyn Roslin (BSG).

I know, I know. You missed me! Few quick things.
Don LaFontaine (the movie trailer narrator) has passed away. Plenty of jokes come to mind. What are some of yours?
Tigh / Roslin has a campaign site. (Oh, and I spelled Roslin wrong in the last post. Why? Because I live in DC. 20 points if you understand that.)
Every BSG episode in 5 minutes. YES OF COURSE THERE ARE SPOILERS.
Did you see yesterday’s comic? One of my favs.
Thanks to Kottke.org for posting this. Road Runner / Wile E. Coyote were my fav Looney Tunes. Awesome:
- Road Runner cannot harm the Coyote except by going “beep, beep”.
- No outside force can harm the Coyote — only his own ineptitude or the failure of Acme products.
- The Coyote could stop anytime — IF he was not a fanatic. (Repeat: “A fanatic is one who redoubles his effort when he has forgotten his aim.” —George Santayana).
- No dialogue ever, except “beep, beep”.
- Road Runner must stay on the road — for no other reason than that he’s a roadrunner.
- All action must be confined to the natural environment of the two characters — the southwest American desert.
- All tools, weapons, or mechanical conveniences must be obtained from the Acme Corporation.
- Whenever possible, make gravity the Coyote’s greatest enemy.
- The Coyote is always more humiliated than harmed by his failures.
- The audience’s sympathy must remain with the Coyote.
