F*** Grawlix!

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

First of all, I decided to post cool stuff to this here blog, in addition to just the comics.  So much for the anonymous mysterious man of mystery vibe, I guess.

You know when a comic is trying to curse without cursing, and they type something like “@$%^!” ? It’s called grawlix, and it was apparently invented by Mort “Beetle Bailey” Walker. Check out more here.

Go Read Other Comics

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Brian Wilson of Hookie Dookie Panic fame has started up a new comic.  It is about a girl with messed up eyes who sees things she’s not supposed to.  So far very enthralling, and in full color!  It may give you a seizure after staring at my comic lately.  Go check it out at http://www.geist-panik.com/

Thanks to Marty and Nick over at Dead of Summer for the first official shout-out to The System!  Marty says about the comic “I think the internet will be all over it soon”.  He also calls me “internet-brother-from-another-mother”, which is very true.  Those boys are practically family, which means I’m kinda mad at them for stiffing me with the chores when we were growing up.  Anyways, they do an amazing comic about zombies and Baltimore and The Protomen and chainsaws and other things that are amazing.  Check it out at http://www.deadofsummer.org/

I have a “you link me I link you” policy, so if you want some linkage love let me know. Oh, and you have to not suck.

From the makers of Helvetica (The film, not the typeface)

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Here at Rosscott, Inc. (and The System) we are big fans of design.  That being said, expect this to be the first of many posts on cool design topics.  I will keep it to ones that are accessible to all (at least, I think so).

Comes Objectified!  I loved Helvetica, and am looking forward to this.

“Objectified is a feature-length independent documentary about industrial design. It’s a look at the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets. It’s about the people who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. It’s about personal expression, identity, consumerism, and sustainability. It’s about our relationship to mass-produced objects and, by extension, the people who design them.

Through vérité footage and in-depth conversations, the film documents the creative processes of some of the world’s most influential designers, and looks at how the things they make impact our lives. What can we learn about who we are, and who we want to be, from the objects with which we surround ourselves?”

Check it out at http://www.objectifiedfilm.com/.

Why didn’t Bowser think of that?

This is a great vid by the College Humor people about Bowser’s minions, and how they are handicapped from doing their jobs.  No embedding, so you’ll just have to click the link and go from there.  Link.

What Would Don Draper Do?

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Here at Rosscott, Inc., we have a few loves.  Mad Men on AMC is one of those loves.  The main character, Don Draper, is a great character.  Now there’s a site that tries to answer the question: What would Don Draper do?

If you like this, head on over to Dear Pirate for a Pirate-based advice column.

HOT NY Times Infographic

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Here at Rosscott, Inc. we are big fans of symbols, icons, graphics, and signs.  That’s why I had to post this infographic from the NYT about the Olympic Games medals through the years.  I’m not going to get all political or anything, but go check this out.  It is SWEET AS HELL.
