Katsucon Goers – Little Help?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

A friend of a friend (hell, let’s just call her a Systemic) has contacted me about needing some volunteers for Katsucon.  I will be in attendance at Katsu as I have the last few years, as will many of the local east coast webcomickers (including AFHS, Erfworld, Comedity / Finders Keepers, Onezumi, Dear Pirate, Panic!, FG and many more).  They need help staffing, so please consider this and spread the word to others who might be interested.

So, here’s my plight: I’m in charge of the Charity Auction for Katsucon. Every year, we gather donations of goods from the vendors and attendees at the convention, and then auction them off, giving all proceeds to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. So far, I’ve got a staff of two, including myself, which really isn’t enough to manage, and I need to get a staff list in by Friday morning. I’m looking for two or three trustworthy, hard-working individuals who’d like passes to Katsucon, meals, lodgings at the hotel (shared, I’m afraid), and the chance to work for a good cause. Duties include (but are not limited to) collecting and cataloguing donations from vendors, guests, and attendees, collecting signatures from guests and artists, and helping set up and run the auction on Sunday morning. The convention runs from February 13 – 15th, 2009. I can be reached at sweetcharity2009@gmail.com

F*** Grawlix!

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

First of all, I decided to post cool stuff to this here blog, in addition to just the comics.  So much for the anonymous mysterious man of mystery vibe, I guess.

You know when a comic is trying to curse without cursing, and they type something like “@$%^!” ? It’s called grawlix, and it was apparently invented by Mort “Beetle Bailey” Walker. Check out more here.

Groomsmen Pic

Don\'t we look classy?

I’m the best man of my friend’s wedding. He asked me to put together an image using all the groomsmen.  Here you can see us all together, looking classy as hell.  If you can’t tell, it’s based on a famous screen shot of the Rat Pack from Oceans 11 (the original). I’m hoping to post more sketches here in the future.

Up to Eleven

No really, it goes up to 11.As I was perusing the internet today, I spotted an interesting link about the original Doctor Who music (thanks, kottke.org!). What do I see on the page but a media player. At first, it was of little interest to me. Then I started rocking out to the music it was playing. Soon I wanted to rock out more, because the volume was only at a 9. What do I find? You can turn the volume not just to 10, but all the way up to 11. That’s right, it goes up to 11. For those times when 10 just isn’t enough.

Go Read Other Comics

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Brian Wilson of Hookie Dookie Panic fame has started up a new comic.  It is about a girl with messed up eyes who sees things she’s not supposed to.  So far very enthralling, and in full color!  It may give you a seizure after staring at my comic lately.  Go check it out at http://www.geist-panik.com/

Thanks to Marty and Nick over at Dead of Summer for the first official shout-out to The System!  Marty says about the comic “I think the internet will be all over it soon”.  He also calls me “internet-brother-from-another-mother”, which is very true.  Those boys are practically family, which means I’m kinda mad at them for stiffing me with the chores when we were growing up.  Anyways, they do an amazing comic about zombies and Baltimore and The Protomen and chainsaws and other things that are amazing.  Check it out at http://www.deadofsummer.org/

I have a “you link me I link you” policy, so if you want some linkage love let me know. Oh, and you have to not suck.

Welcome!

For those of you that are new and wondering what the deal is, I recommend checking out what Bryan had to say. It makes me sound like even more of a genius than I really am, which is saying something. High praise considering he started it off with “Ok, so this looks really boring…”

Thank you to all of my comics friends who have helped this new site really take off so quickly. Marty, James (I’m waiting…), Dern, Bryan, Brian, and Nick, you guys have really helped me get this thing going and get me even more excited about it. Thanks!
