The System 547: How Do You Get Your Coffee?
Another chart, and on one of my favorite topics, coffee. It was actually inspired by this Reddit thread on the coffee subreddit, which quickly devolved into the pretentiousness of good coffee. Specifically from vornan19:
I can’t be more of a coffee snob unless I start roasting my own beans!
I figured I’d take it as far as I could, though I did leave out a few details / possiblities along the way. Feel free to fill them in, and share your own methods in the comments!
As for me, most of my coffee is made by the following:
- Beans bought whole from wherever I can get them. Sometimes it’s Trader Joes, but normally one of my friends gets it for me as a gift from somewhere since they all know I like coffee. Coffee for me is like stamps for Jeremy on Sports Night. “I always seem to find one when I need one.”
- A Cuisenart burr grinder that normally goes for around $70, but I got for $30 through Amazon. Worst thing I can say about the thing is that it takes up a fair amount of room in my kitchen.
- Most cups of coffee are made with a Bodium french press, but I also have a cone dripper when I’m feeling adventurous.
Oh, and one more thing! Tomorrow (Sunday) is my birthday! If you want to buy me a present, share my comic (this one or otherwise) with all your friends, maybe buy a print of this comic or something else from the online store, and maybe, just maybe, buy me a cup of coffee (I accept PayPal through systemcomic@gmail.com).
Oh, and if you’re looking for a great cup of coffee in the DC area, check out Filter in Dupont Circle. See my artwork on the wall and tell them Ross sent ya.

Petrol flavoured coffee is always good.

Bodum likes their own spelling…
My nephew (Sean) roasts wonderful.
So I don’t have to.

Have a Jolly contraption I love to use when i'm feeling unsatisfied with my coffee and the normal french press just isn't doing it for me… I like to pull out the overly elaborate Siphon coffee maker :]

Unluckily, as a guy pretty new to this “office environment” stuff, the quality scale of coffee I’ve had so far is about this, ranked from worst to acceptable:
Instant coffee powder & electrically boiled water.Coffee pods, processed by an archaic Philips Senseo machine.Buy it from somewhere, sometimes even with sounds suggesting grinding of actual coffee beans.Make it at home in a controlled flavor environment with a regular electric drip coffeemaker.Have one at a restaurant during an out-of-office meeting. (NOTE: This does never happen.)
And not to forget, happy birthday to you, Ross.

1) Take whole beans (which I do not currently roast myself)
2) Grind said beans with manual burr mill
3) french press the crap out of them.
Ross, your coffee sounds up the proper alley.

1. Buy your coffee from an independent local roaster, like Cup to Cup or PERC here in Savannah, and make them bring you new stuff the day after it's roasted.
2. Grind it yourself (I don't have a burr grinder, but it's next on my list).
3. Make it in a pump-driven espresso machine (there's a $70 Mr. Coffee unit at Amazon that blows away some of the more expensive ones and makes a better espresso than the coffee shop down the street).
4. Make really loud yum yum noises as you drink it.
Hooray for coffee!

According to some extreme coffee snobs I know (like… super extreme, they own a coffee shop), this is apparently the best coffee making tool in the world, BEHOLD, THE CHEMEX: http://www.amazon.com/Chemex-Drip-Coffee-Carafe-C…
You get additional points for making coffee in something that sounds like it might have been part of your childhood chemistry set.

Which coffee shop?

If someone’s as adventurous as the alt text, they deserve to be pretentious.

Not one in DC unfortunately, but these guy –  ;www.caffepronto.com – we chatted with them awhile back about branding and they turned up their nose at our french roast, percolated coffee. Then again they sent us a bag of beans a few weeks later that were just plain amazing, so maybe they're on to something.

I know those guys! They need the branding help, it's true.

Buy cheap Kroger preground, mix 1/2 & 1/2 with same decaf and brew in black maker (doesn't show crud and mold) and enjoy the caffeine. Sing Eric Clapton's drug anthem and substitute "caffeine" for "cocaine." Its alright, its alright, its alriiiiiiight, caffeine!

I buy the beans at a local coffee roaster place…fresh roasted every week. Beans start to become bitter after they are roasted, so the fresher from the roast the better. Use a Cuisinart Grind and Brew.
HATE bitter coffee.

"She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lii-ie; caffeine."

A late wish of Happy Birthday! My sister's birthday is the same day as yours, and mine is the day after.
By the way, I don't even drink the coffee, drinking it also "ruins the flavor profile".
Instead, I drink tea. Produces enough Brownian Motion to keep up my randomness.

Buy freshly roasted beans from local roaster, grind with Infinity burr grinder, brew in Chemex manual drip or Bodum press if I'm feeling lazy. And happy birthday! Ain't it grand having a December birthday?

I just crush the seeds and snort them.

"Just buy it somewhere that does all this for you?" A place that buys it a gas station, makes it at home with a normal coffee maker, a french press, an aeropress and a Rube Goldberg machine, grinds, roasts and grows their own beans without looking at them during the whole process?
I'd like to find this kind of a place. Sounds interesting.
