The System 485: Hipster-Jack

See also: The Hipster Union.

Speaking of the Hipster Union, it’s now on a t-shirt! American Apparel, of course. If you want girls sizes, they are ONLY available in preorder SALE (only $15), which will run for the next week. Get ‘em before they sell out! And by that, I mean to a record label. It’s preorder, I’ll order as many as you guys tell me to. PREORDER HERE »

Oh, and don’t say “hipster-jack” three times in a row. If you don’t get that, don’t worry about it.

ok, which shirt did i pre-order? and is pre-ordering hip?

  2. rosscott

You pre-ordered the TRAP shirt, which is now no longer on sale. This is a new one, I wasn't going to post it so fast but I want to get them in stock for con season and it matched the comic too well.

  3. GreyDuck

You and your silly paranoia. I said "Hipster-jack" a whole bunch of times and nothing hap–

  4. James A. Calwell III

I hope The System doesn't get hipster-jacked. It's one of the few comics that I like that no one else I know has heard of yet.

  5. rosscott

Well I would actually like it if more people had heard of it.

  6. hsmagnet

    yes, but is it hip?

  7. Nano

omfg this. I feel extremely weird when I realize I'm about to say something like, "I liked this before hipsters liked it." Like, "I was on Tumblr before hipsters" or "I liked Michael Jackson before he was under-ground."

    I hate hipsters.

  8. Arthur

Y’know, Nano, I always thought of ‘I liked X before X’ as one of the signs of Chronic Hipsteria.

  9. Bestie Guestie

    I'm finally caught up! Yay!
Arthur, sometimes it's a sign of Hipsteria, but other times it just means you're around people who are tooooo younnnnnnggg.

Example: I was on the Internet before it had pictures.

  10. Chicken

Knowing about it is too mainstream.

  11. Rossmom

Knowing about it just spreads the word of something terrific, It would never fall into "mainstream" in that sense of the word. It's for people of discriminating taste.

  12. Rossmom

I don't think toothbrushes fall into the "hipster" category. It is a basic necessity as opposed to a Coen brothers film before they became the "Coen Brothers".

"Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter. The "effortless cool" urban bohemian look of a hipster is exemplified in Urban Outfitters and American Apparel ads which cater towards the hipster demographic. Despite misconceptions based on their aesthetic tastes, hipsters tend to be well educated and often have liberal arts degrees, or degrees in maths and sciences, which also require certain creative analytical thinking abilities."

So, based on the above, hipsters seem to really have to have money and actually work on being "hip!. To me, not worth the effort. Just makes you like everyone else. Be an individual!!!

I don't think The System has to worry about being "hipster jacked" it's waaay beyond the understanding of a hipster who is really just a little kid trying to fit in as opposed to an actual independent thinker w/his/her likes and dislikes not dictated by a herd.

    NO NOT TOOTHBRUSHES.
    Man this is lame.
Now I have to drink mouth wash.
    It buuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnns.

  14. stevil

Being hipster-jacked means you were already a hipster.

I used to be afraid of this, seeing as I enjoy Swiss design and am a legitimate absurdist, but then I realized it matters not. I no longer care about it, as it is a vicious cycle…Call me a hipster if you like, but I'm not–I'm a pseudo-hipster, one who is not acting out of bad faith. I simply like what I like. If you think I'm a hipster, then you're wrong

    Simple as that.
