The System 423: Types of Typos
Greetings, People of the Internet
Since you like the comic and/or charts and/or typos, some things to keep in mind:
- I sell prints! For $10 + shipping you can have your very own poster of this or any comic on the site.
- I sell shirts! They are in the same vein as this comic. You will like them. Click here to check out Venn F%*king Diagrams or Beards Turn Laziness into Awesomeness.
- Share the comic on whatever sites you share things on. It helps.
- Subscribe to the feed. You’ll get comics Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week. For free.
I’ll be at New York Comic Con in Artist Alley This Weekend
Remember, me! Shirts! Prints! Pins! Stickers! High-fives! Hawk! NYCC Artist Alley! SEE YOU THIS WEEKEND!
Our table is Artist Alley P-10, listed under “Ross Nover” or “Rosscott”. If you come by the table and say the magic word (“kerning”) you get a free sticker or pin while supplies last. Free things, just for coming by the table and remembering a word! Can’t beat that with a stick. Unless you have a stick. In which case I guess you could.
Some notes on the comic:
So I did actually find a list of common types of typos. I have no idea how official this list is, but it looked official enough. I had no idea there were so many formal ways of doing things wrong.
UPDATE: If you like this one, this is not the first comic about typos. Check out these two “Great Moments in Typo History”. (1) (2)
Also, thanks to Systemics Marty “Fn” Day and Rachel “Design Valkyrie” Mooney for chatting online and sharing their typo-related thoughts. Also for being bad typists, it helped.
ANOTHER UPDATE: No new comic for Friday, I’m pretty busy with New York Comic Con prep. See you at the con, and see the rest of you Monday!

I've done that countless times.
October 6th, 2010 at 12:33 pm
Can I get this in a poster? I need two, one at home and one at my desk!
October 6th, 2010 at 12:39 pm
NICE. I anticipate a more extensive future version, a la XKCD's new map of the landscape of communications. How about the unintentional innuendo? Go tit!

My main problem is missing out whole words. Something I never spot (no matter how much I check and re-check it) until after it's sent/posted.
Most times it's an obvious slip and people figure out word is missing. (See what I mean?)
The problem comes when it's a key word in the sentence that I omit. So, for instance, if I wanted to say – She's cleaned a dirty dog – it might end up being – She's a dirty dog…

I just started laughing out loud in the middle of the student center, surrounded by strangers. You win. Also, I too was hoping for the unintentional innuendo, or perhaps the innuendo that they want you to think is unintentional. And a more extensive version! <3

I have a tendency to combine certain words: with + th* = withe, withat, etc
I guess that falls under the types too fast quick slip

I would just say two things: You need to proofread or Spell Check–won't help you w/ apostrophes; there/their; hear/here, etc. but it's a start.
I think 'Mystery Hand' would grab your reader's attention. They'll think you are writing in code and spend time trying to decipher it. Or, possibly a govt. agency will flag it and Big Brother will start watching you.

ti always do this after playing for a while

Yep! Go to http://www.hilariawesome.com/ for all your poster needs.

I often have the jump and sometimes mystery hand. It's always amusing to notice you've written entire sentence off the keys without noticing.
yeah sorry about that.

You are missing one, where part of the sentence is accidentally moved to another part of the sentence, a common occurrence on laptops due to accidentally brushing the touchpad.
Ex:
You are missing one, where pon occurrence on laptops due to accidentally brushing the touchpad. art of the sentence is accidentally moved to another part of the sentence, a comm

Okay, this? This I don't want as a T-shirt. Text would get too small.
This I need as a poster. Full scale, if you please, so that people who enter my room will immediately know how I feel about Typos.
Mother Fulcrum Typos.

October 7th, 2010 at 9:41 am
I did as well
October 7th, 2010 at 9:45 am
Oh, someone else who deciphered it.
October 7th, 2010 at 9:52 am
I did as well. But then, at my age (which means I've typed–over a great # of years than you could possibly have been 'tweeting').
October 7th, 2010 at 11:09 am
WTF! (yeah sorry Abbout that
October 7th, 2010 at 2:59 pm

October 11th, 2010 at 8:07 pm
Oh cool, now I don't need to do it.
October 11th, 2010 at 8:07 pm
I do all of those! Except I read my messages before I send them, and fix any mistakes I made.
October 27th, 2010 at 9:40 pm
The idea of this website is that none/all of us are cool.

You missed one! Qkjd ;t;kdm g; yodavglu jt;kdogiap!Q = Somebody switched my Dvorak keymap on me = Why can't you use the same keymap as everyone else?
I'll tell you why! It's a pig-headed resistance to mediocrity! Same reason I avoid Microsoft software.

Am I the only one whose first instinct was to try and decipher the Mystery Hand text?
April 24th, 2011 at 7:54 pm

Good day! I know this is kinda off topic however I’d figured I’d ask. Would you be interested in trading links or maybe guest writing a blog article or vice-versa? My blog discusses a lot of the same subjects as yours and I think we could greatly benefit from each other. If you are interested feel free to shoot me an email. I look forward to hearing from you! Great blog by the way!
