The System 364: What to Say…
It’s a well-known fact that my mom reads this comic. It’s maybe not a well-known fact that my dad does not (on most days). Mom, this would be a bad day to tell him to start. Let’s just see if he finds it…
This is actually the 2nd comic based on a true story involving my father. The first being a quote he always says, “that’s how they get you.”
UPDATE: If you’re a fan (or a true Systemic), here’s two ways to help me out!
- If this is like your parents or someone you know, post so in the comments! I’m trying to prove to my Dad it’s universal and more about “parents” than him in particular.
- If you really like the comic, it’s on Reddit! Go show it some love.

It frightens me that this is kind of how talking to my husband goes as well…

How very, very, very………….true! You've definitely, w/o question nailed it!! (But it would be much more than a 20 minute conversation.)
And, I definitely won't mention this.

You're a credit to moms everywhere.

Yeah, that's exactly like talking to my dad about… email. Over. and. over. and. over.

Yep, this is my dad as well. He recently and hilariously discovered lolCats. And I'll never forget the day he came home from work all excited about "discovering" how to ctrl+alt+delete a process (about 5 years after it was common knowledge).
Though the typical tech conversation with my dad is him spending 10 minutes describing insignificant details of what would otherwise be a 10 second question with a one word answer.
And then there was this gem of a conversation my mom:
"You don't want to wear a strapless dress. It might slip down and you'll end up on YouTube!"
"Um, they don't allow nudity on YouTube anyhow. I'd probably be safe."
"Oh, well then, maybe it'll be on Hula."
Parents + technology = fun times!

My dad told me that Pushudo.com needs to be like Google.com. I am still not sure what that means.

Less about parents than about EVERYONE I AM RELATED TO. Although it gets worse the older they are. My aunt spent three hours explaining facebook to me. I did not need facebook explained. I was using the internet before she even owned a computer. I taught her how to use the internet. And maybe most importantly of all (maybe), I set up her facebook account for her. -_-

My Dad actually does the same thing, You say one thing and he goes on and on!
But thats why we love him, he's so friendly and starts conversations with anyone and absolutely everyone! <3

holy balls just like my parents and grandparents and greatgrandma (im 15)

My dad has no clue about the internet at all. He thinks you automatically start downloading viruses if you leave browser windows open. My mom is much more savy but only with things that pertain to her (she doesnt eat out much, so I doubt she would ever find yelp, but she was one of the first parents to be on FB and has every update and version of scrabbulous possible)… She did * gasp * introduce me to craigslist aeons ago! O_o

My parents and grandparents don't talk to me about internet. Guess why?

I usually have this kind of conversation with my dad every time I talk to him. Then I get an e-mail about it. Then he calls and asks, "Did you get that thing I sent you?" which I invariably did not because it was buried under the 10,000 joke forwards from my mom and sister that day.

I emailed the comic link to my Dad although the truth is more along the lines of replacing "site on the Internet…" with "<insert post-1995 technology>"

Notice that most of these posts refer to Dads. Hmmm, face it–us Moms stay more "up" on things and definitely grasp the computer/internet concepts more easily:)

Remember, it was Moms that knew how to properly use the VCR, Dad's never could grasp the infinitely complex programming needed to record a show
Nothing has changed since.

My dad sends me forwards. When he's sitting next to me. Then when he gets the same forward a year later, he sends it to me again. He also knows how to use Kijiji. Instead of looking for the price of anything in a store on on Google he looks only on Kijiji, even if it means paying more for something used instead of new he'll do it because it's Kijiji. And he keeps explaining how to post ads even though I showed him how and he STILL doesn't know how to add a picture. My stepdad's girlfriend is worse; she likes facebook applications and fan pages. I used to get so much farmville crap from her, it was insane. I blocked her from sending me invites but then she called and told me my facebook was broken. An hour later she was still going on about her farm.

Thats how my conversations with my ex went. There is a reason we aren't dating.

My mom is the one who says “that’s how they get you” onstead of dad. Otherwise, it’s just eerie.

you what a cool mom congrats

My dad (64 years) know cero about computers but when you think about it the technology has develop at such a rapid rate that is hard even for this younger generation (that we grew up with tech) to keep up. Think about 10 years ago what was available and how everything now is sodifferent.. is obvious they can´t keep up with the changes. Just how often are apple and microsoft (many others) releasing new devices? every 5 months O_O
and you have a good relationship with your mom congrats
youre is very cool you should be very proud. I dont care if my parents talk my ear off Im glad to have them

Sounds like my nana. But it would be two hours later. Though she can't work an ATM machine, so it wouldn't be tech-related.
