Systemic Michael sent in this System in the Wild, the Evacu-Trac system of getting stiff people down stairs in a way that looks like oh so much fun.  LINK.

Next up is Systemic Hjatli all the way from Iceland!  In addition to having some cool photography and such on his site (and from being awesome), he has sent us the wonderful scan above:

I just purchased a Lenovo desktop computer for a colleague and got a great inscription on a tiny bag that came with the computer.

Thanks for being a big fan, thanks for being from Iceland, and thanks for having such an awesome name! I just wish I knew how to pronounce it.

And finally, one from the archives.  There have been a few things in the last year that have fallen by the wayside as I try to get this site and its contents in order, and some of those have been System in the Wild submissions.  Here’s one from Systemic Kim that she sent me back in August (shit, it’s December!?) that I never let see the light of day.  This one is worth it, click and see what this has to do with riding BART (yes I’m looking at you Bay Area peeps).  LINK.

If you sent me one a while back and I never posted it, I’m sorry.  Send it again, I am determined to get on top of this.  If you haven’t sent me one, you should!  I’m going to stay on top of this!  Send it over to systemcomic at gmail and I’ll post it on the site, with a web address if you have one.

The Latest Super Art Fight!!!

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

It totally deserves 3 exclamation points.  Super Art Fight is an awesome event I do with some fellow comic artists where we combine live art, improv comedy, and wrestling-style drama into an event that needs to be seen to be believed.  I’ve normally been really behind on talking about it here on my site, but here is lots of advance notice:

Our next full show is 1/23/2010 at The Ottobar in Baltimore, Maryland.

If you are at all a fan of seeing something interesting, webcomics, art, or me you really need to make it to the show. We’re slowly posting about all the fights that will be that night, but garuanteed you’ll see some pretty awesome webcomic peeps.  If this isn’t enough notice, you probably couldn’t make it no matter how much notice I give you.  LINK.

Some Design Advice

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Systemic Kevin sent in a link to this blog post, here’s the interesting part:

I’d like to leave you all with a friendly public service announcement: if your company has a graphic designer (or a “graphics person” or “graphic artist,” as you probably call them), don’t make them design stuff for your kid’s school. Just don’t do it. I know it makes sense because they work for you and you want to look like the #1 Class Mom, but please, don’t make them do that. It’s so unbelievably offensive. Because we didn’t coke ourselves out and stay awake for days on end and memorize the subtle differences between 500 typefaces to design the logo for your son’s football phone tree. It’s like asking your dentist friend to pick a piece the lettuce out of your teeth after lunch. So please, for me, don’t do it. Thank you.

So $*#&@ true.  LINK.

The Vendor / Client Relationship in Real World Situations

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

This is what designers / programmers / and pretty much every type of vendor has to go through when dealing with client.  My fav is “we got the burrito yesterday for less”.

Today’s Comic

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Today’s comic (Wednesday’s) will be up later today, around 10pm.  Sorry for those looking forward to it, it’s been a bumpy week. Friday should be in good shape (and it’s my birthday).

Clients from Hell

This is the best blog since my blog (and Kottke.org that I find so much cool stuff on it’s insane).  It is, as it states, “A collection of anonymously contributed client horror stories from designers.” That is exactly what you will find.  One of my favorites:

That looks good, but can you add a blog too? We’ve already used our budget on the rest of the site so how does $50 sound for adding the blog?

Oh, you poor souls.  Anyway, they are pretty hilarious and to those designers out there, make you realize you aren’t alone. LINK.

Btw, if you like those, check out the “clients” tag here at Rosscott, Inc. Chances are you’ll find things up your alley.

Graphic Design Meets Super Villainy

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

evilcomic

One of my daily webcomic reads is a comic called Evil Inc. by Brad “Wigwam” Guigar. It centers around a corporation of evil super villains who sell products and services to other super villains.  The man has a way with puns that rivals my own, in a way that is the same time cheeky and groan inducing (Brad, I honestly mean that in the best way).  While the artwork is always good, the story line joke-based and interesting, and the recently-added color work tight and refreshing, I’m mentioning it today because of the most recent storyline on the site.

Starting this week, one of the characters, a super hero named Captain Heroic, has returned to his overlooked career of freelance graphic design for extra money. Hilarity has since ensued.  The story line starts here, and is still going strong.

It’s also worth pointing out that Brad is also Editor-in-Chief behind Webcomics.com, and his colorist Ed is behind the site Tragically Geek (and the comic Geek Tragedy).*

*Every time I write “Tragedy” it looks like I spelled it wrong.

Rosscott in the Wild: Guest Comic @ Dueling Analogs

NOTE: This is just the first line, not the whole comic.  Click the link to see the rest.

This past Friday I did a guest comic over at Dueling Analogs by the great Steve Napierski in honor of yet another year of his throwing his life away doing webcomics. He lists me as one of the first webtoonists he ever met, which I find interesting since I doubted he even knew who I was at the time.  Anyway, having gotten to know Steve over the last few years, I can honestly say that as far as gaming comics go, he tries harder than most.  LINK.
