If you don’t get it, you clearly don’t work with HTML.

Ofc it wouldn't be very funny after it was explained, but could one of you HTMLers please explain? I'm curious now.

is the joke the fortune is no longer in the cookie where it was 'embedded' so now he had to close the tag?
September 11th, 2009 at 5:55 pm
Oh god. I just realized I've been coding way too much lately. My first thought was "He never opened that tag."
Also: Who are these people who don't know the fortune cookie "in bed" game? I thought it was universal.

One of the non-standard tags for embedding plugin content is EMBED (which has been officially superseded with OBJECT as of HTML4). It sounds vaguely like "in bed."

Fortune cookies aren't as common in the UK as I'm lead to believe they are in the US.

I don't know, I guess that's one way of putting it when it's a good Fortune in a fortune cookie. I still prefer the, "Wow, that's a good one". I like it. So, I'll actually start using the term and if I'm lucky, I won't get odd looks, and if I do, that's ok as well. I mean, they might take me away to the "funny farm" as it use to be called, but they did have a basket weaving course and you never know, that could become a new avocation.

uhm… yeah… in my entire life I have only seen a fortune cookie thrice, so no, the fortune-cookie-in-bed game is not known to me, and thus this joke is completely lost on me, even though I work with HTML on a daily basis (am PHP web developer / front end developer).

That is so F'd up. I made that joke less than a week ago. Nobody laughed.

I thought pretty much the exact same thing.
