Less Blogging

Friday, February 27th, 2009

I’m wondering how many people read / care about all the content I put into this blog.  I get the impression that except for the System-related posts, the answer is “not that much”.  I think I’m going to phase back the blog into being mostly System related, which means less of the “cool crap I found” posts.  At least for now.  This will not effect the comic.  If you want to see these sorts of “cool crap” posts, most make it into my Twitter feed.

This DOES NOT affect System in the Wild posts, which I love having and you should keep sending into me (systemcomic at gmail dot com).  Check them all out here.

I Can Read Movies!

A great series of movies made into old-fashioned Saul Bass-esque book covers.  Highlights include: Mean Girls, Back to the Future, Shawn of the Dead, and Highlander.  A great little project.  Link.

Cool Things in Brief

Want to meet the guy behind 4Chan?  Turns out he doesn’t make any money off of it and lives with his mom.  I don’t know if I’ll ever be the same after reading this.  Link.

Dieter Rams (industrial designer extrodinaire) talks about the 10 commandments of design.  Link.

Are Pixar movies sexist?  This article thinks so.  I concede that there has not yet been a female main character of a Pixar movie, but there have been some good strong female characters, such as Mrs. Incredible and Jessie from Toy Story, even E.V.E. from Wall•E.  Link.

If you’re a graphic designer looking for books to read (or just an enthusiast), here’s a whole series of required reading for the SVA visual media department.  Link.

A blog that covers whenever book covers feature books on them.  Very meta.  Link.

When the Ghostbusters game comes out, it will be “realistic” in style for Xbox and PS3, but “stylish” for Wii and DS.  I’m looking forward to the stylish one.  Link.

Looks like Tropicana gave up on their new advertising, after a ton of people (READ: design snobs) complained that their old design was more familiar and some would say better.  Link.

Btw, I’m pretty sure 90% of these came from Kottke.org, which is one of my favorite blogs for fascinating things.
