Damn, I guess it doesn't read how I thought. The idea is that with nobody around to insult, he has to make fun of himself. Also, he's kinda a douchebag for having that kind of quota. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll think it over and how to fix it.

Maybe try a different kind of insult. I suggest checking Tom Waits "If You Can't Say Anything Nice, Say It in Yiddish". One I remember is "when you die, may you hang by day and burn by night"–that's a very old one. I'm sure the book contains more up-to-date material.
This way you can insult someone and they probably won't even realize they've been insulted but you'll know and have accomplished your goal.
