De-Dorked Bike Helmets (And Other Biking Things)

In an effort to prove that this blog is really just “whatever the hell I feel like posting” and rarely actually linked to, well, anything, I post this bit sent in by biking comrade and Systemic Ken of Palm Beach Bike Tours about some fashionable bike helmets.  I wonder why the pics they show aren’t on actual people’s heads.

I know your biking readers aren’t dorks so they may find this [link] useful.

It’s true, they aren’t dorks.  They are in fact some pretty cool people from what I understand.  Then again, I don’t really know you guys, so I could be wrong on that one.  If you’re a biker and reading this bit, post in the comments about what kind of biker you are.  Especially if you have any experience as a bike courier.  I used to write/draw a comic that involved a character who became a bike messenger, and always wanted to get some more research.

You know what I'd like to see? A bike helmet that looks like batman's helm. Or maybe a Thor version.

Commute by bike in Overland Park, Kansas. I ride ~2,500 miles a year, all year long. I kept following links to the company's site and they still don't really show the hat covered helments on people's heads…

I commute about 3,000 miles a year (and use the bike for some grocery shopping too) and would just like to state that those are really, really stupid-looking.

I'm sure they're just the thing for the guys who like wearing capris, though.

My best year was 2,700 miles. My mileage is way down this year because of an Achilles tendon problem, weather and wrapping up stuff so I could retire. I have a new Surly Long Haul Trucker on order, so by the end of the first week in January you should see my mileage go up.

My goal is to do a bunch of two and three-day minitours that I can write up for http://www.palmbeachbiketours.com. I think the first one is going to be a West Palm Beach, FL, to Key West, FL, run. I get a lot of hits from folks searching for info on that ride and the last time I did it was before a bunch of bike trails were completed.
